Mayor of Rakvere is Triin Varek. She was born on 23 June 1977 in Rakvere. She is the mother of two children.
She graduated from Rakvere Gymnasium in 1995 and has a BA in International Business from Concordia University. She graduated from the International University of Estonia in 1999 and also holds an MA in Social Affairs from the University of Tallinn.
During her university years she worked in diferent companies gaining valuable experience in a direct marketing company, as a business clients manager in an insurance company, and also as a specialist in the Ministry of Justice foreign relations department.
Mrs Varek has been involved in international business for over 20 years through her work in managing the family company OÜ Wimberg, which imports medical instruments and endoprostheses from Germany. For 3 years Triin Varek worked in Lääne-Viru Arenduskeskus (The County Business Center), where she was an adviser to beginner and active enterpreneurs, consulting them on the EU – EAS grant application process, and on making business plans and financial forecasts for their future.
Triin Varek is active in politics (Centre Party), she was elected to be the Head of Rakvere Centre Party Office and Head of Lääne-Viru County Party Centre´s Women movement „KENA“.
From 2017 to 2019, Triin Varek served as deputy mayor of Rakvere before becoming mayor of the town in 2019.
