Lille invites you to a comic books village

For two weeks, the art of expressing ideas through series of images and text is being honoured

A comic books village will welcome visitors at Lille-Saint-Sauveur, a former freight station now turned into a cultural space. The French city invites you to a comic strip village with two weeks of festivities and exhibitions dedicated solely to comic books art from July 26 to August 9.

A year under the sign of comics

The people of Lille, Lommois and Hellemmois are invited to discover the art of communicating through images and short text at a unique event offered by the National Book Center and the Ministry of Culture. The two-weeks-long Village-BD is part of the national year of comics and the event "Voyage, Voyages…”

The main objective of the year dedicated to comics is to strengthen the visibility of this form of artistic expression and to give birth to new initiatives that enhance it while highlighting those that already exist, even internationally, according to the municipal website.

The comic books village thus revolves around several major themes: educational, cultural and heritage, artistic, regional, but also international. The event kicked off on July 26 and will last until August 9 at Lille-Saint-Sauveur, from Wednesday to Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Thanks to this entirely free exhibition, visitors will be able to go behind the scenes of the making of a comic strip, to learn more about the multitude of genres and fields of expression of the Ninth art. They will also get an overview of this art throughout the world.

The event is suitable for all audiences. What is more, there will be special workshops for children led by local authors Mig and Winoc. From July 27 to 31, four workshops per day will be offered: two in the morning from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and two in the afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m.
