The regional energy agency facilitates collaboration between Energy service companies and clients, showcasing successful projects which led to CO2 emissions decrease
Regardless of the presence of favourable economic conditions for investment, proven technologies and applicable solutions, Germany is failing to meet its energy objectives, mainly resulting from backlogs for existing buildings. But with enough determination and transparently provided information, it is possible to face the challenge. Risk-free procurement of energy and efficient technology without own investment and guaranteed success does seem possible and there are many success stories to demonstrate it from the North Rhine-Westphalia region (NRW).
Energy service companies (ESCOs), offering services with guarantees, like the Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) could lead to increased investment in energy and building technology. However, the collaboration and trust between the ESCOs and the potential clients needs to be facilitated. Here is why the Energy Agency of NRW has implemented two solutions: a platform promoting networking between investors and building owners (Plattform Energieeffizienzdienstleistung) and a customer-oriented database with best practices, which presents the successful energy efficient projects (EnergieProjektPartner.NRW). It showcases initiatives, funded with beyond 21 million euro, which have led to considerable cost savings (more than 30 million euro), but also energy savings exceeding 175 TwH thermal and 61 TWh electrical and totally 168 000 tons of CO2. The platform targets executives, municipalities, property managers, building operators and investors.
The EnergyAgency.NRW works on behalf of the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia as an operational platform with broad expertise in the energy sector: from energy research, technical development, demonstration and market introduction and initial consulting to continuing vocational training. In times of high energy prices, it is more important than ever to push ahead with the development of innovative energy technologies in NRW and to show the neutral side ways in which companies, municipalities and private individuals can use energy more efficiently and how renewable energies can be used reasonably.
