An open-air cinema on Leiden’s canals this Friday and Saturday

SAIL is an event held in Leiden, causing most of the city to transform into a huge open-air maritime museum.

It is not a coincidence that Leiden is named the water city of the Netherlands. During Sail Leiden there is the opportunity to watch a film on the canal. All you need is your boat, your friends boat or if you’re boat-less, a ticket to get onto a boat and you’re set. If you take your own boat, it’s free. If not, you can pay a small fee to get onto one of the Leiden boats (around 7,50 Euros). The program includes two movies – The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou on Friday and the Titanic on Saturday. There will be food and drinks available on shore, to enjoy during the movie.

Besides the open-air cinema visitors can enjoy an interactive museum, special walking guides, boat taxis and more. Different ship workers will be showcasing their skills at a crafts market. There will be a variety of food stalls with lots of fresh fish, music (such as folk, jazz and pop), artwork and a special program for children too. Leiden will be transformed into an open-air maritime museum for a weekend, so don’t miss it.
