This is the theme chosen for the next European Entrepreneurial Region Award 2023
The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) has already opened applications for the 2023 European Entrepreneurial Region (EER) Award, which will recognize winners based on their policies of support for small and medium companies (SMEs). In fact, the overarching theme for the next edition is “Entrepreneurship and resilient communities” – one that ties up nicely with the current efforts in the Union to achieve comprehensible recovery and to prevent future impactful crises.
The EER award is a project that each year identifies and rewards up to 3 EU territories, which show an outstanding and innovative entrepreneurial policy strategy, irrespective of their size, wealth and competencies. The territories with the most credible, forward-looking and promising plan are granted the label “European Entrepreneurial Region" (EER) for the following year.
In the wake of the Covid pandemic, the CoR representatives noticed that the resulting economic pitfall had particularly affected the European SMEs, which despite their smaller sizes form the backbone of many regional economies.
"Facing the uneven pace of economic recovery across the European Union, regions and territories populated by entrepreneurial-minded societies are more able to overcome crises and return faster on the path of growth. That is why the European Committee of the Regions decided to focus the EER award 2023 on entrepreneurship and resilient communities. We need to build back better together, putting SMEs at the heart of the European recovery," said Michael Murphy (IE/EPP), Mayor of Clonmel (Ireland) and Chair of the CoR’s Commission for Economic Policy (ECON).
He spoke at the SME Assembly 2021, which is the most significant event for small and medium-sized enterprises on the continent. This is also the forum where the next edition of the EER Award was first announced.
We, at TheMayor.EU, would also like to encourage regional governments to support their SMEs and apply for that prestigious award. Here is more information on how to apply.
The winners of the 2023 edition will be announced during the CoR plenary session in June 2022.
