Competition for photos taken from the balcony launched in Zaragoza

Competition for photos taken from the balcony launched in Zaragoza

Another way to make the lockdown more pleasant

With Spain becoming one of the countries hardest-hit by the coronavirus in Europe, it is particularly important to motivate people to respect the lockdown imposed by authorities. One inventive example of how to do this was set in Zaragoza, in Northeast Spain this week.

Art through the window

The municipality has launched a photography competition for shots taken out of the balcony or window. What is more, participation is targeting especially young people who seem to find it the hardest to stay home these days, especially now that the lockdown is likely to be extended for another two weeks.

The competition #DesdeMiVentana (or out of my window) is open to persons between 12 and 30 years of age until 19 of April 2020. The condition is that the photographs represent the empty city of Zaragoza. In other words, the shots must portray how society respects the measures in place to contain the Covid-19.

How to apply

All applicants should attach their photo contributions, upon filling-in the application form and indicate the name of the street and the neighbourhood in the photograph. The street, of course, must be entirely empty of people. The winner will be drawn on 10 May and will be awarded an Instax Mini 9 camera.

Some of the photographs can already be seen on the competition's website.

The contest, explains the municipal website, is taking place alongside other activities organised by the local youth service, which aim to make quarantine more bearable for the young, by mobilising their artistic potential.

Focus on the youth

#DesdeMiVentana is an extension of the seventh edition of the 4Artes Contest, organized by the Youth Houses of Delicias, Torrero, Oliver, La Almozara and Universidad. It includes a photography, painting, literature and dance competition.

The annual event saw over 270 works presented in its previous edition.
