Croatia exceeds last year’s tourism turnover with a 57% increase in visitors

It has recorded 2 million arrivals and 8.4 million overnight stays in 2021

The penultimate week of June proved to be especially profitable for the tourism sector of Croatia. The Ministry of Tourism reported that 333,000 arrivals and 1.6 million overnight stays were recorded between Friday 18 June and Wednesday 23 June.

Foreign tourists reportedly made up 1.2 million of the overnight stays and the largest influx of visitors came from Germany, Slovenia, Austria, and Poland. This information was gathered from an eVisitor system that collects data on traffic generated in commercial and non-commercial facilities.

57% more visitors than in 2020

From the beginning of this year, Croatia has witnessed 2 million arrivals and 8.4 million overnight stays in hotels, camps, etc. These numbers are seen as impressive when considering the fact that the country has recorded a 57% increase in tourists and a 58% growth in overnight stays compared to the same period in 2020.

Minister of Tourism and Sports Nikolina Brnjac commented on these findings: “Demand for Croatia as a responsible tourist destination is continuously growing, which is why the daily number of tourists has increased by about 200,000 since the beginning of June, and 330,000 new tourists came to Croatia during this extended weekend alone.”

Managing Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board Kristjan Staničić revealed further information, explaining that the country saw approximately 4.4 million overnight stays this month. According to Staničić, this means that Croatia has exceeded last year’s tourist turnover in the same period by over 80%.

Epidemiological measures must still be followed

Despite these optimistic statistics, both Brnjac and Staničić explain that it is crucial to adhere to the measures put in place to prevent the spread of COVID. It is only by following the rules and guidelines that Croatia will be able to maintain its reputation as a safe and responsible destination.
