The holiday season is all about being with the people we love and care about. This is why it is during this time of the year that families, who do not always get to be together, travel hundreds or thousands of kilometres just to see each other.
Since the outbreak of COVID, however, Christmas time has not been the same. Instead of looking forward to being together, families have become anxious and afraid of unintentionally infecting someone they love.
Understanding that the recent rise in cases and the emergence of a new variant will make matters even worse this year, Pilsen’s largest residential care facility has found a safe way of bringing people together.
On 1 December, the City of Pilsen revealed that the Municipal Institute of Social Services has created a visitors room in the Four-Leaf Clover facility. More specifically, it has transformed one of its therapy rooms into a place where the 300 residents of the care home can see and speak to their loved ones over the holiday season.
Although the two groups will be able to meet, a wall and plexiglass will divide them. In this way, the facility will ensure the safety of residents and guarantee that the virus does not spread inside the home. To facilitate communication, the visitors’ room will be equipped with microphones and speakers on both sides.
Commenting on the new room, Deputy Mayor Eliška Bartáková shared that it is an early Christmas gift for the residents and their families. As such, the staff has decorated the room with tinsel, baubles, and snow spray.
Since there will undoubtedly be a high demand for visitations over the holiday season, visitors must book a slot in advance.
