European Week of Regions and Cities 2021 takes place next month

The annual event will be held under the heading “Together for Recovery” on 11-14 October

This year, the 19th edition of the European Week of Regions and Cities will take place online from 11 to 14 October. Being held under the slogan “Together for Recovery”, the #EURegionsWeek2021 will consist of 300 sessions dedicated to four main topics: cohesion, green transition, digital transition, and citizens engagement.

As its name suggests, the virtual event will bring together various bodies from EU regions and cities. More specifically, it is aimed at government officials, representatives of private companies, and members of the European Committee of the Regions and the European Parliament. In addition to this, it also targets academics, researchers, journalists, and members of the public who wish to voice their views and drive change.

What is the purpose of this event?

By bringing the aforementioned bodies together, the European Week of Regions and Cities seeks to discuss common challenges faced by EU members and find solutions. Expanding on this, regions and cities will share their experiences and discuss the implementation of EU cohesion policy. In this way, they will highlight how work on a local and regional level ensures good European governance.

As the heading “Together for Recovery” implies, the 2021 programme will address how governments can support EU citizens and communities following the effects of the pandemic. In particular, the event will focus on their capacity to invest in a fairer, greener, and more digital future. Thus, discussing cohesion policy will be the key objective of the event’s 19th edition.

Last year marked the first-ever digital #EURegionsWeek, with a record number of over 12,000 participants attending the virtual event. The impressive success of the 2020 programme bodes well for the upcoming edition of the event.

Those interested in attending must register to participate before the event in October.
