Farming integrate satellite technologies - app monitor crop changes

It makes crops cheaper and more environmentally friendly

Developed by Polish firm SatAgro with EU funds, satellite surveillance of farmland means significant savings for farmers. A desktop control panel allows them to monitor productivity of cultivated land and analyse historical data, including meteorological data, on an ongoing basis. They can then optimise agrochemical doses, which also minimises environmental impact.

Farms consume large amounts of fertiliser and plant protection products. The SatAgro application processes satellite data to help farmers monitor crop changes. The data is then used for mapping to show farmers where fertilisers and protection products need to be applied. This saves money and is a more environmentally friendly way of increasing crop yield. Founded by University of Warsaw scientist Przemysław Żelazowski, SatAgro now employs 11 people. Its rapid growth has led to collaboration with partners in Poland, the Czech Republic, Spain and other EU countries.
