Passengers have the opportunity to experience the Hungarian Capital from the river as it lights up in the evening

Today, the City of Vienna announced it will offer pre-Christmas boat trips down the Danube to Budapest. This will be the second year the Twin City Liner will run the route, allowing citizens to experience the Hungarian capital for three nights. The project is a joint venture between Wien Holding, a massive company owned by the city, and Raiffeisenlandesbank NÖ-Wien.

The oldest connection between the two cities

The Danube is the oldest route between the two cities, and citizens can experience the ancient journey once again. The voyage between the two cities should take around 7 hours and passengers are expected to arrive in the evening when the architectural landmarks of the Hungarian capital light up. Margaret Island, the Parliament Building, Castle Buda, the Fisherman's Bastion or the Chain Bridge make for an unforgettable experience.

The Twin City Liner premiered in 2019 and according to Kurt Gollwitzer, Managing Director of Wien Holding, it was quite popular. Last year, however, the tours had to take a break, considering the pandemic. This year, due to Covid-measures, all passengers have to have a valid 3-G certificate, meaning that they need to be vaccinated, recovered or tested, to buy a ticket.

The whole travel package offers three nights in the Hilton Garden Inn Budapest City Center, as well as a bus tour of the city. Director Gollwitzer explained that this was an amazing pre-Christmas opportunity.

Reinhard Karl, Deputy General Director and Chief Commercial Officer of Raiffeisenlandesbank NÖ-Wien, said: “We have been a partner of the Twin City Liner since the beginning. Especially now it is also acting as an important source of inspiration for tourism and the economy. We are delighted that all passengers are being given a pre-Christmas present with the special trip to Budapest.”
