Greece to hold its first ever illustrations festival in September

Illustradays 2021 will take place in Athens from 3-12 September

This year, Greece will hold its first festival dedicated to illustrations: Illustradays 2021. The cultural event will take place in Athens’ municipal organisation Melina Mercuri Museum and Cultural Centre on 3-12 September. Moreover, it will showcase works by both international and local illustration artists.

“The most colourful festival in Athens”

According to the event’s website, the festival will be a colourful and creative celebration for people of all ages. Featured artworks will explore the theme of “Next Day” and therefore depict our world’s future. As such, it is expected that Illustradays 2021 will showcase works of art that interest both children and adults alike.

Taking this further, the festival will include original work from the well-known Le immagini della fantasia museum in Sarmede, Italy. In addition to this, it will display the works of artists such as Eric Puybaret, Rebecca Dautremer, Elena Ordiozola and Giulia Pastorino, among others.

On her Facebook profile, the Greek illustration artist Fotini Tikkou shared that she has been chosen as the festival’s artistic director. Moreover, she explained that the event will offer a rich programme that will teach young artists how to grow in the illustration industry. That is, Illustradays will hold workshops, seminars, portfolio reviews, and lectures by professional artists. Finally, there will also be a number of digital, physical, and interactive experiences.

Young artists still have a chance to showcase their work

On 10 June, Illustradays announced that it is collecting illustrations for the festival in autumn. As such, it is inviting all illustrators who are currently based in Greece to apply to participate in the cultural event. Interested artists will be able to submit an application on the festival’s website until 10 July 2021.

Admission to the self-proclaimed “most colourful festival in Athens” will be free.
