It will also allow visitors to discuss childcare and fatherhood with a healthcare professional

As of this week, fathers in the Danish Municipality of Halsnæs will have the opportunity to bond with their children and meet other fathers who are also on paternity leave. That is, the municipality has collaborated with the Danish Forum for Men’s Health to open Fars Legestue: Halsnæs’ first ‘Father’s Playroom’.

All fathers of children between the ages of 0 and 3 can visit the new establishment without prior registration. In addition to fathers and children, a nurse will also be present to answer questions, discuss childcare, and help fathers overcome challenges.

Giving fathers the chance to be more present

In recent years, fathers have expressed their desire to be more active and present in the lives of their children. With the creation of this playroom, Halsnæs Municipality and the Forum for Men’s Health are now giving men the opportunity to do so. Head of the secretariat of the Forum for Men’s Health Mie Møller Nielsen commented on this, noting:

“We are incredibly happy that Halsnæs Municipality will help to create a good environment for fathers and children by opening a Father’s Playroom. Our work with fathers shows that many want to be more active with their children, but they do not always know where to find these activities. That is why Fars Legestue is a really good concept, inviting fathers and their children.”

Head of the Centre for Children, Young People and Families Søren Warrer Kjellerup echoed Nielsen’s statement, sharing that many men now view being present in their children’s lives as crucial. For this reason, the municipality’s health care department has been working on creating new opportunities for fathers.

The Danish Municipality of Odense also unveiled a Father’s Playroom last year. At the time, it explained that its goal was to eradicate inequality and promote healthier father-child relationships.
