Hamburg - the state with the worst traffic jams

The motorways are more congested than the capital's

Hamburg's motorways were declared the most congested in Germany. Traffic jams are worse than those on the motorways around Berlin. The German Automotive Club calculated the total length of traffic jams and came with an index number to rank them. The index number for Hamburg is 390 and for Berlin - 380.

Hamburg has the worst traffic jams in proportion to the length of its highways. Total length of congestions in Germany increased by 5% in 2017 - or 1,45 million kilometres of congested roads.
