If the European Union was a team, it would be top of the podium at the Winter Olympics

Five out of the top ten medal winning countries are members of the European Union

With the 2018 Winter Games now just days away, we can make the final count of who won most medals. For 17-action-packed days of sport that inspired the world, 2930 athletes were competing and trying to get the so desired Olympic medal.

An interesting statistic is that if the European Union was a team, it would be top of the podium. All the athletes competing for countries being part of the EU won 134 medals (gold, silver and bronze combines). Five out of the top ten medal winning countries are members of the European Union. These are Germany (31), Netherlands (20), France (15), Austria (14) and Sweden (14).
