Kosice promotes alternative modes of transport during European Week of Mobility

The region has several promotional campaigns currently underway meant to make sustainable transport more attractive for locals

The Slovak region of Kosice is embracing the spirit of the European Week of Mobility by attempting to make all matter of sustainable transport alternatives more attractive for locals. The regional government is implementing a series of promotional activities that will give citizens a reason to venture outside while leaving their motor vehicles behind, thus giving nature and the environment a small breath of relief.

Making sustainability interesting

One of the ways that the regional government aims to make sustainable travel more fun and intriguing is the NABI SA - Breakfast with the Košice Self-Governing Region initiative. It will be spread around three days in three different locations.

Throughout these three days, the regional government will offer those using alternative and sustainable forms of mobility the opportunity free breakfast foods on the predetermined locations, thereby providing them with an incentive to go out, exercise and keep both themselves and the environment healthy.

The first iteration of the event was held in the city of Kosice itself, at the Jakab palace on the first day of the European Week of Mobility. The 2nd part of the event was today at the Radničné námestie in Spišská Nová Ves and the regional government will end the initiative on Friday at Námestí osloboditeľov in Michalovce.

“Promoting green transport is our clear priority. We have a million euros in the budget to support bicycle transport. I believe that despite the current difficult situation, we will be able to exhaust them and the bicycle will gradually become one of the most important means of transport in Košice thanks to the new safe cycling routes," said the mayor of Kosice, Jaroslav Polaček.
