Thanks to an EU-funded project, 180 seniors from Bytom will receive such devices for free
180 Polish seniors from Bytom will receive life-saving bands and will be covered by medical care. This will happen as part of a European project, financed from the Strategic Intervention Area Recruitment funds. For this second edition of the project, implemented by the medical centre "TeleMED24" 180 participants are expected. Unlike the previous year when only 40 people took part, seniors from all over the city are invited.
The initiative addresses old people living alone, dependent, who due to their age or health condition need permanent or regular medical care. After qualifying for the project, they will receive special wristbands, through which their life activities will be monitored 24 hours a day. The band has to be worn at all times, as it is equipped with detectors for heart rate and pulse. In the event that a senior falls or his indicators get worse, the medical rescuer on duty can immediately react and send an ambulance to the place or call a relative. Furthermore, the elderly can call for help easily by pressing the SOS button. On top of wearing the band, the participants should visit a nurse or medical caregiver once a week and can benefit from the help of a physiotherapist.
Participation in the project takes 36 months and is free. The recruitment of participants is already open and will last until the end of July. Medical personnel are also sought: 6 rescuers, 8 nurses, 4 physiotherapists and 4 medical caregivers. More information at www.telemed24.eu and the City of Bytom (in Polish).
