London and Helsinki sign the City to City Digital Declaration

The two cities have signed an agreement to work together to take advantage of the opportunities presented by AI, open data and other smart city initiatives

The chief digital officers of London and Helsinki have signed a City to City Digital Declaration, which will see both cities share best practices and expertise in the field of digitalisation, data and artificial intelligence use; share experiences on code and collaborating on joint-platforms; enable city staff to exchange experience on identified work streams to grow in-house talent; and explore possibilities to design digital innovation solutions to common challenges across the two cities.

The activities will focus on:

- Joint working on the ethical use of data and artificial intelligence for better citizen engagement and improved services

- Applying learning from the use of artificial intelligence in smart city solutions

- Learning from successful data sharing approaches across public services, 3D city modelling and the concept of a “digital twin’”

- Co-creation of digital innovations between entrepreneurs and citizens, lessons from the Mayor of London’s Civic Innovation Challenge

The Declaration has an initial period of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement between the cities.
