MARTa Herford – one of the most unusual museum buildings in the world

It is a contemporary art museum in Herford, Germany

MARTa Herford is a contemporary art museum in Herford, Germany. The idea for the museum, founded in 2000, draws from Herford's status as a German center of furniture and home furnishing production. The name MARTa is an acronym for Möbel ( furniture in German), ART and Ambiente (ambience).

With its flowing, tilting walls, MARTa Herford Marta is one of the most unusual museum buildings in the world. The façade is made by dark red bricks which stand in stark contrast to the shiny stainless steel roof and the plastered white core of the building.
