The “Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca, which is part of the Babes-Bolyai University (UBB), will implement an investment project worth 37 million euros. The aim of the investment is to expand and modernize the premises of the educational institution. The project will be financed by the National Investments Company – CNI.
Over the last 20 years, the number of students at the music academy has increased eight-fold - to over 1,000. In this regard, the project is crucial to meet the educational needs identified by both local and regional actors. The project will create the modern infrastructure that is necessary for the delivery of proper musical education and at the same time will meet the requirements for preparing students and organizing artistic events.
The “Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca is one of the most active institutions of higher musical education in Romania. It offers students high-level qualification in the fields of musical creation and performance, as well as musical education and musicology.
The „Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy was established in 1919, as part of a major modernization process of the entire Romanian education system. In fact, in Cluj-Napoca, institutionalized artistic education dates all the way back to 1819, when the Hungarian Music Conservatory of Music and Theater was founded. The founding of the Conservatory was a key step for the modern phase of higher musical education in Transylvania.
Nowadays, the “Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy supports scientific research in the areas of musical creation, performance and musicology, being the first institution in Romania to organize doctoral studies in the musical field. As an active part of the city and region’s cultural life, the “Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy organizes prestigious national and international cultural events every year.
