New wave of 300 scooters slides into Helsinki

New wave of 300 scooters slides into Helsinki

This season there is an invasion of scooters in the Finnish capital

A pilot project from HSL will bring 300 new traditional and electric scooters in Vuosaari, Helsinki to test them, announced the Municipality. During the last few months, guests and inhabitants of the Finnish capital will have noticed the invasion of scooters. The electric-powered scooters are the latest ride share craze to take off, merging with the familiar yellow city bikes run by HSL, which are part of the public transport network of Helsinki in summer. The new wave of scooters will arrive in the city this month.

How Helsinki’s scooters work:

There’s two main scooter companies operating electric vehicles in Helsinki. The red scooters from Swedish start-up company Voi and the green one Tier scooters from Germany. Since March, Voi has 120 scooters, and already has more than half a million users in 14 cities. Tier came after that and has users in 18 cities.

Both companies' scooters are located and unlocked via an app. They can be picked up and dropped off anywhere, riders use them with a 1 euro fixed price opening charge. After the first minute, Tier is slightly cheaper than Voi per extra minute of usage time.
