No more single-use plastics in all schools in Lisbon

No more single-use plastics in all schools in Lisbon

Using plastic dishes, cups and cutleries in the canteens of pre-school and 1st cycle schools was banned in Lisbon

The mayor of Lisbon, Mr. Fernando Medina, launched a new project which seeks to change the way in which pupils dispose of plastic and all rubbish. This school year marks the first one of many when all schools are offering fresh cocked meal without pre-packaged food and without using plastics dishes, cups and cutleries in the canteens which will contribute to 50 tons less plastic waste.

But that’s not the only measure realized for the pupils in Lisbon this year. Children will receive not just a free lunch at school, but also 14 200 kids from the 1st grade have already got the opportunity to use the public transport in Lisbon for free for the whole academic year. All this are just small steps of the renovation and modernization project called “New School program”.
