PORSCHE Research and development centre opens up in the Czech Republic

A new engineering services branch of the prominent automobile producer has been inaugurated in Ostrava

Porsche Engineering Services (PES), a provider of development services, has opened a new branch in Ostrava last November. The facility in the Czech city will focus on research and development of current automotive trends such as electro mobility, autonomous driving and smart mobility. For the moment, it employs more than 20 people, but this number is expected to grow as high as 50 before the end of 2020. The new branch will be working, among others, on a project related to infrastructure for fast charging of electric vehicles of the future.

The choice of destination is by no means casual. Ostrava has been selected for expansion of the PES capacities due to the presence of several technical universities nearby, from where new employees are expected to be recruited. Generally, thanks to a good infrastructure, strategic location in the tri-border area of the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland and good university opportunities, Ostrava is considered a top destination for investment in Europe. Several highly innovative companies have already opened offices there, such as Hella or BROSE.

PES is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Porsche Engineering Group, a subsidiary of Porsche AG, a German manufacturer of sports cars. Porsche has been offering development services to clients since 1931, when Ferdinand Porsche, a native of Vratislavice nad Nisou in the Liberec Region, established his first design office.
