Riga residents can check the energy efficiency of their building thanks to a heat map

The online tool can come in handy when having to make decisions regarding possible improvements at home

Winter may currently be the furthest thing from our minds, but the Riga Municipality has already kicked off preparations with the unveiling of a new interactive tool called “Heat map”. The digital map shows detailed information about the energy efficiency of individual residential buildings on the territory of the Latvian capital.

The aim of the new tool, which is part of the larger GEO RIGA web portal made available to citizens with a variety of thematic maps and a digital twin of the city, is to facilitate decision making on part of the residents when it comes to energy efficiency measures.

Features of the Riga heat map

For instance, users can review the heat energy consumption of their multi-apartment building for the past 12 months and compare how their residence compares to other similar buildings in Riga.

The data accumulated over the past three years actually categorizes buildings in different categories, which provides a good indication on whether energy improvements might be necessary to the structure.

The map helps residents make decisions about investing in building renovations and understand the potential economic benefits of such improvements.

 In addition, renovated buildings are marked on the map, the results of which can be viewed and compared between houses. Information on renovated buildings provides insight into examples of good practice and potential energy saving opportunities.

The heat map is planned to be further developed, supplementing it with even more detailed information about the renovation of buildings, as well as listing more objects. During the heating season, the data will be updated every month, providing up-to-date information on the energy efficiency of buildings and heat energy consumption.
