On 8 and 9 June 2022, the Danish Municipality of Sønderborg will host the "world’s most important" conference on energy efficiency. The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Supply will co-organise this event alongside the International Energy Agency (IEA) and in collaboration with Danfoss, Danish Industry, and State of Green.
At the 2022 conference, the aforementioned bodies will emphasise the importance of energy efficiency and showcase the world’s green solutions.
According to a press release by the Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Supply, the world must become more energy-efficient if it seeks to reduce CO2 emissions and achieve climate neutrality. When energy is used efficiently, the security of its supply increases and the need to develop new, green infrastructure decreases.
Therefore, this often-overlooked tool has numerous benefits and positively affects both the climate and our health. In addition to this, being energy efficient reduces our expenditure as electricity bills decrease.
Denmark is considered to be a leader in the development of energy-efficient solutions. For this reason, the 2022 conference will take place in the Danish Municipality of Sønderborg, which has set itself the ambitious goal of becoming climate neutral before 2030.
Mayor of Sønderborg Erik Lauritzen commented on this, explaining that the municipality’s efforts have already paid off as it has reduced emissions by 52%. Now, as the host of the two-day event, it will have the chance to showcase some of its green solutions.
Minister of Climate Dan Jørgensen further highlighted that Denmark has already developed various energy-efficient solutions. By showcasing its work, the country can therefore inspire others to follow in its footsteps and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
“If we are to make a serious move in relation to climate change on a global level, then it is crucial that we export our innovative Danish solutions,” Jørgensen explained.
Executive Director of IEA Fatih Birol conveyed a similar message as he noted that many green solutions have already been found. In other words, it is now up to decision-makers to make a joint effort and take advantage of these innovations to help the world achieve its climate goals.
