A new addition to the cycling infrastructure designed with the users’ needs in mind
The Municipality Donostia-San Sebastian, in the Spanish Basque Country, has announced that it will begin with the installation of special bicycle-washing stations on the territory of the city. These will be called Bizigarbis and they will be conveniently located next to cycling lanes (known as bidegorris locally).
The Arrobitxulo park, in Intxaurrondo district, is going to have the first Bizigarbi in the city. The civil works have already been carried out with the creation of the platform on which the washing station will be located and where the water pipes and drainage have been carried out.
The Bizigarbi of Arrobitxulo is located next to the bidegorri route. It has a water hose, a stand to place the bicycle and specific cleaning accessories. It has been designed with the corporate image of the City Council.
Commenting on the new addition to the city landscape, the Councilor for Urban Maintenance, Miguel Ángel Díez, has indicated that “we are going to place these bizigarbis in different areas to facilitate the washing of bicycles for their users, whether urban, mountain or road cyclists. We understand that this service, which will be free of charge, will be well received by bicycle users, who will be able to wash them at low pressure to avoid damage to its components, such as bearings, levers or suspensions”.
In addition to Arrobitxulo, another Bizigarbi will soon be installed in Txomin district, which will also be placed in an area next to the bidegorri route. A third, simpler washing station is going to be placed in Harria park in Altza district.
These are the first three Bizgarbis that will go into operation shortly, although the idea is to continue placing new stations in other areas of the city as well.
