It is expected that the new metro line will be opened in 2019
With more than 1.25 million inhabitants, Sofia faces the problem of heavy road traffic, often leading to significant traffic jams on major roads. In order to improve air quality and to adapt transport services to meet growing demand, hard work is being done to build and develop the metro. A new third metro line will extend 18 kilometers.
Sofia has commissioned the Siemens megacorporation to test and deliver 20 new trains from the company's new series - Siemens Inspiro. At the moment, Inspiro Sofia models are being tested at the Siemens T1 test center located in Vegberg-Veldenrat, Germany. It is expected that the new metro line will be opened in 2019.
