The Copenhagen Jazz Festival transforms the Danish capital into the world’s largest jazz club in July

Around 100 venues across the historical heart of the capital play host to 1000 concerts

The streets of Copenhagen come alive to the sound of jazz being played in the streets, cafes, concert halls and open-air stages. The Copenhagen Jazz Festival transforms the Danish capital into the world’s largest jazz club in July each year. Around 100 venues across the historical heart of the capital play host to 1000 concerts. Some concerts have entry fees but many are free.

Attracting over a quarter of a million visitors throughout the 10 days, the festival visitors are divided evenly across age groups. As such there are programs catering especially to children, teenagers, pensioners and the most enthusiastic jazz devotees. This 10-day festival showcasing Danish and international acts has been running since 1979. Copenhagen’s reputation as a jazz centre developed in the 1950s and 1960s. A time when local acts gained international prominence and many leading American jazz artists based themselves here.
