157 people will be able to find work and restore facilities, among which, the animal park

Alberto Rojo, Mayor of Guadalajara, visited today the zoological garden of the city which is currently undergoing renovation. Accompanied by the Guadalajara Delegate for Economy in the Government of Castilla-La Mancha Susana Blas, the mayor expressed satisfaction with the ongoing work, stating that this is the result of a regional collaborative plan designed to provide training and employment to 157 people in vulnerable conditions.

The Employment Plan has a list of 15 projects for Guadalajara

The initiative, which was designed to help unemployed people from the municipality who might find themselves in otherwise precarious conditions, counts with a budget of more than 1.7 million euros. The Guadalajara Municipality contributed 756 000 euros, with the remaining portion coming from the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and provincial authorities.

97 people have already found jobs under the plan, 14 of whom are currently working on renovating installations of the city zoo. All the projects were initiated this summer, (for example work on the zoo began in June) and are expected to be completed by 31 March 2021.

As for the zoo itself, which the mayor described as having “an important sentimental value for the city,” and that after nearly two months of ongoing works there are now areas which have enjoyed substantial improvement “after years of abandonment”.

The 14 workers have managed to perform extensive cleaning and weeding out of pathways and picnic areas especially around the educational centre and the bird observatory. They have also cut down about a hundred dead or injured trees, disinfected all the benches, fixed the drip irrigation system, restored the wading birds’ pond and placed new posters where needed.

The rest of the projects slated to be carried out under the umbrella of the Employment Plan are likewise concerned with the renovation, repairs and maintenance of the urban infrastructure, such as parks, riverbanks, community centres, schools and more.
