All 1003 buses of the TMB fleet are set to have free Wi-Fi access
Barcelona City Council is a pioneer of city wi-fi and is constantly trying to innovate with smart city initiatives to support their citizens and tourists. The Barcelona Wi-Fi deployment, already one of the largest in Europe, has been expanded to include the city’s entire fleet of 1003 buses. The Wi-Fi expansion is part of the plan “Barcelona, digital city” and it aims to guarantee that every citizen has access to the Internet, regardless of financial resources.
To access Barcelona Wi-Fi from any of the service access points, all you require is an IT device with a Wi-Fi connection and an email address. The Wi-Fi network already covers most of Barcelona City via more than 1110 access points at prime locations, and will now be accessible to those jetting about on public transportation. Due to government regulations, Barcelona Wi-Fi may not exceed speeds above 256 Kb/s at outdoor locations, but the City Hall has already started looking for ways to increase the speed of access.
