This is an extension of the existing cultural offer by the funeral services of the Spanish capital
The Funeral service of Madrid introduces theatrical visits to the civil cemetery. Servicios Funerarios de Madrid (SFM), a municipal company that manages the Ntra. Sra. De la Almudena Cemetery attempts to broaden its cultural program and bring funerary culture closer to society as a pedagogical tool. Thus, the new experience is a totally different proposal from the existing general program of guided tours. With a mixed format between guided tour and performance, visitors will enjoy a totally immersive and sensory experience through sounds, music and performative actions in the tranquillity of the night at the cemetery.
Previous initiatives carried out by the municipal funeral services company of Madrid have proven to be a success. Among them are the guided tours, the Concert of Silence on the occasion of All Saints Day, or the night concert of sacred music held in the cemetery chapel at Easter. These happenings promote funerary culture, as well as bring the attention of families beyond the moment of the farewell to their loved ones. At the same time an invitation to regain the knowledge of the past, to get to know the different architectural and artistic currents, the visits give the opportunity to discover the cemeteries as a meeting place.
There are 700 places available free of charge with prior reservation. The new visits are open on Monday July 15 at 9:00 am and last till November. Book yours at visitascementerioalmudena.sfmadrid.es
