Mayor of Chios is Stamatios Karmantzis. He was born in 1954 in Karyes, Chios.
In 1974, he graduated from the Men's High School. Until 1978 he served as a Merchant Navy Officer and then graduated from the School of Armor and served as a Reserve Lieutenant in the Greek Army for 28 months.
In 1981, after undergoing examinations at the Ministry of Justice, Karmantzis graduated as the first successful candidate with an "excellent" degree and was appointed a Bailiff at the Chios Court of First Instance. At the same time, after a five-year study at the National Conservatory of Athens, he graduated with an "excellent" degree.
In 1990, Karmantzis was elected the first Municipal Councilor in the Municipality of Homeroupolis. In 1994 he was elected Chios Prefecture.
In 1997, Karmantzis become Chairman of the Committee on Economic Development and Employment of the Prefecture of Chios until 1998. In 1998 until 2000, become Vice Mayor of Chios.
In 2000, Karmantzis is the President of Chios Prefecture Council until 2002. Two years later he become President of the Chios Port Fund until 2012.
In 2007, he is President of NODE Chios and member of Central Committee of New Democracy until 2010. Then he was elected Regional Adviser in the North Aegean Region. Since 2014 he is Chios Member of the New Democracy.
In 2014, Karmantzis become the Vice Chancellor of Chios Regional Unit by 2019. In 2019 Karmantzis was elected mayor of Chios.
