James Geoghegan

James Geoghegan is the 356th Lord Mayor of Dublin and was elected on 21 June 2024.

He graduated with a first-class honours degree in Politics and Sociology from University College Dublin and a Barrister-at-Law Degree from the Honorable Society of King’s Inns. He has worked as a practising barrister for almost a decade specialising in public and constitutional law. 

A member of Fine Gael, James Geoghegan was elected to Dublin City Council (DCC) in 2019 at the age of 33 and was subsequently re-elected in June of this year, where he topped the poll, representing the Pembroke local electoral area. 

In the last Council, Geoghegan served as a member of the DCC Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) on Housing, the subcommittee on homelessness, and the South Inner-City Drugs and Alcohol Taskforce. He also served as a board member of the National Maternity Hospital.
