CURRENT MAYOR

Aleksander Miszalski

Aleksander Miszalski (1980) hails from Krakow, where he has completed his entire course of education. Mr Miszalski holds three master's degrees from three of the city's universities: the University of Economics in Krakow (major in international relations), the Jagiellonian University (major in sociology) and the Academy of Physical Education (tourism and recreation). In addition, he also obtained a PhD from the University of Economics in Krakow in 2024.

His foray into politics dates to 2006 when he initially ran for a seat in the local council unsuccessfully. In 2010, however, he was elected as a city councillor in Krakow, a position he managed to maintain until 2018 when he was elected as an MP to the Polish Parliament (Sejm) representing the Civic Coalition (KO).

In 2024, he decided to return to local politics by running in the Krakow local elections as a mayoral candidate. He managed to secure a win in the second round replacing Jacek Majchrowski, who had become the longest-serving mayor in the city's history. He was sworn into office on 7 May 2024.
