Encouraging the development of digital content such as podcasts, videos, and live streams
13 cultural institutions in Hesse have successfully applied for funding through the programme "Kultur.Gemeinschaften." The programme encourages the development of digital content such as podcasts, videos, live streams, and the use of new technological equipment. Ventures from Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Darmstadt, and other cities are represented.
The federal-state funding program "Kultur.Gemeinschaften" helps smaller, and non-profit cultural institutions and project sponsors to digitally document and show their work. This is important because regardless of the current situation, citizens expect digitally supported offers from cultural institutions.
A podcast produced by the Frankfurt Stalburg Theatre is one of the projects supported by the programme. The Büdinger History Association was able to impress the jury with its proposal for digitising the city's history. The Frankfurt Ohrwurm association, on the other hand, uses the funding to provide teachers with online instructional materials to expose children to classical music, and as for the Kunsthalle Darmstadt - it uses it to digitally display their art treasures to visitors.
“That is why we, as the Hessian state government, have our sights firmly set on supporting digitisation in museums, theaters, listed buildings and gardens as well as the state's archives: In 2020, we created ten new jobs in the state's own facilities and made three million euros available for digitization projects. With this year's budget, we are creating a further eight positions with experts, including for digital curation. We have also budgeted another 3.9 million for digitisation projects," said State Secretary Ayse Asar.
677 institutions and cultural organisations from all over Germany applied for project support. The 300 or so institutions that are now being funded were chosen by a committee. The “Kultur.Gemeinschaften” programme has a budget of 11 million euros. One million of it comes from the federal states' cultural base and the rest from the federal government's "Neustart Kultur" potential rescue initiative.
