A season of carnivals commences in Cyprus

Over the next few weeks, cities across the island will host many cultural celebrations

The traditional Season of Carnivals has arrived in Cyprus and many cities and businesses are taking part in organising their own annual events.

With Stinky Thursday (otherwise known as Tsiknopempti) behind them, Cypriots are eager to get into the carnival spirit. Stinky Thursday marks the beginning of three weeks full of cultural celebrations across the island of Cyprus taking the form of tens if not even hundreds of carnivals.

In Paphos, for example, celebrations have already started, as the city welcomed its carnival King and Queen just this Thursday.  But locals are just now getting into the spirit and are ready to kick the celebrations into high gear.

Take the Chakra Art Gallery where Carnival Season will be properly opened with a Latin Rhythm Pre-Carnival Party on 28 February. During the event, there will also be dance classes as well as cultural performances by renowned Cypriot DJs and artists.

Meanwhile, on 29 February, the Phoenix Social Club will be hosting a party with a charitable cause – it will be donating profits from the night to the Friends Hospice Charity.

Many parties and carnivals across the country are taking on specific themes. Most present among them are the themes that bring us back to the past – 80’s and 90’s themed parties, retro parties etc. Eager carnival-goers will be able to find anything they find interesting wherever they go – be it in the capital of Nicosia, Larnaca and of course Limassol.

Limassol is by far the biggest and best destination if you’re eager to experience Cyprus’s Carnival Season. There are tons of events planned by locals and businesses that take on all kinds of shapes – including ones modelled after popular TV shows or after specific historical periods.

If you’re on the lookout for a party in Cyprus, look no further and join in on the fun that is the island’s Carnival Season.
