Part of the last season of the acclaimed TV series Money Heist was shot there
The city of Alicante in Spain clearly has ambitions to become a favoured location for film productions. That, at least, is the message that one can glean from its municipal website, which recalled to readers that the coastal city was chosen as one of the shooting sports for episodes from the final and upcoming season of the acclaimed Netflix TV series Money Heist (or Casa de Papel as is known in Spanish).
What is more, the municipality counts with its own Alicante Film Office, which is part of the local Tourist Board. It is in essence a municipal office that offers information, advice and administrative processing services free of charge to all professionals in the audiovisual sector who wish to film in Alicante. It offers a wide variety of services designed to save producers time, money and effort.
The city offers a great variety of interior and exterior locations suitable for carrying out all kinds of filming. Among these are the Castle of Santa Bárbara, the island of Tabarca as well as the Paseo de la Explanada, the Santa Cruz neighbourhood, and the air-raid shelters.
The luminosity, the climate, the diversity of settings, its seafront and the wide network of transport connections with Spain and Europe make the city of Alicante one of the key destinations for film productions. Despite the restrictions due to the pandemic, between the first months of the current year, 21 permit procedures and advice on the locations and services have been requested.
As a result of this, one documentary, a short film, two music videos and six photo sessions for different brands have been shot in the Mediterranean city. In addition to these, four television programs and seven commercials have also been produced there.
In this regard, we cannot omit the major event on the local cultural scene that is the Alicante Film Festival taking place from 29 May until 5 June in its 18th edition.
