All Irish Lidl supermarkets to remove the non-recyclable packing

All Irish Lidl supermarkets to remove the non-recyclable packing

This will result in avoiding over 65 tones of black plastic

The plastic that cannot be recycled will be removed from the entire fruit and vegetable range across all the stores of Lidl in Ireland before Christmas and from its fresh fish products by February 2019. This will be then followed by the fresh meat, poultry and cured meat ranges before next August.

The supermarket company doesn’t stop there. Lidl is also taking all single use plastic items like straws, disposable cutlery, plates and cups off its shelves, which will be replaced by bio-degradable alternatives. This will result in the removal of over 65 tons of black plastic waste every year. Lidl is planning to reduce 20% plastic packaging by 2022 and to implement 100% recyclable own-brand packaging by 2025.
