Balearic Islands to ban plastic in order to clean the coast

The sale of all plastics will be banned by 2020

Balearic Islands, belonging to Spain, have pushed forward plans for banning the sale of plastics by 2020. The measures will aid cleaning up the coast line. Everything plastic will be no longer sold or used - these products will be outlawed.

In December 2017, the European Council and Parliament had agreed on a plan targeting 65% of urban waste to be recycled. The proposal now has to be approved by EU member states.

The new legislation in the Balearic Islands will also affect Mallorca and Ibiza.
