Hundreds of thousands of citizens will benefit from a new strategy developed by the City Council
The Birmingham City Council has unveiled a massive strategy for the development of the eastern parts of the urban area and wants locals to pitch in with their own thoughts and suggestions.
Large parts of East Birmingham fall within the top 20% of the most deprived areas in England. The area is home to some 230,000 people who have been deprived of many opportunities and are in need of city assistance.
And that is precisely what local authorities aim to provide with the new strategy. Their plans include the creation of more than 40,000 jobs in the area, the addition of 10,000 new homes and the improvement of access to quality education, health services and public transport for residents and locals.
These ambitious goals will be achieved by taking advantage of several key investments and projects – like the HS2, the Commonwealth Games and the Midland Metro. Through the strategy, the East Birmingham community will be able to make full use of the opportunities offered by these developments.
Furthermore, East Birmingham is set to become a major development centre for low carbon and sustainable technologies and it will play a pivotal role in the city’s overall climate ambitions.
The goals of the City Council are divided into 5 separate areas:
These ambitious targets will be worked on by the East Birmingham Board, a body made up of local representatives that will make sure that the area is ready to make the most out of all the opportunities that are coming its way.
