Bologna's transformation through the years is now creatively visualized

Bologna's transformation through the years is now creatively visualized

It also invites people to feel inspired and contribute their ideas for the future of the city

Earlier this month, the Innovazione Urbana Lab foundation inaugurated a new immersive space and a multimedia installation itinerary that is open to the public. It offers a story and visualization through sight and sound of how the city has changed through the years and how it could continue to transform into the future.

The project, located between Palazzo d’Accursio and Salaborsa, was created with the collaboration of the University of Bologna and the Bologna Municipality.

Communicating and instilling awareness

The immersive space offers ‘new eyes’ to the visitors for the transformations underway in Bologna and the design and reasoning behind them. It is also a space for narrating the processes and outcomes of these transformations.

At its centre are the citizens who, also thanks to the technologies of the Innovazione Urbana Lab, become the protagonists of an unprecedented narrative of the city, set among culture, politics, economy, urban transformations and ecological transition.

Contents, installations and new technologies characterize the five environments that make up the Lab in a unique and constantly evolving way, which, for the first time ever, connects the so-called horse staircase with the covered Piazza di Salaborsa, at the ground floor of Palazzo d'Accursio.

First, the external gallery offers a journey through the city from the twentieth century to the present day. Then, the Viale, along the Bramante Corridor, is an immersion in the sounds and images of the contemporary city. Next, the House is the home of the data and information on the city. The Studio, is a thematic in-depth space in which to retrace the history of Bologna and enter into the analysis of the changing city. Finally, the Workshop is a laboratory area where visitors can imagine and contribute to the transformation of the city.

The contents of the Lab are also accessible on BOforAll, the free and inclusive app dedicated to the discovery of the cultural heritage of the historic centrе of Bologna. As sort of a sixth space, it gives particular attention to people with visual, hearing and motor disabilities.
