Christmas trees take around 10 years to grow to 6 feet. Six million Christmas trees are discarded every year in the UK. Primrose Vale Farm, near Cheltenham, offers its customers a Christmas tree rental service. Customers keep the tree over the Christmas period and then return it. People can also rent the same tree the following year and actually many families are doing so taking the same one back year after year.

In the farm, customers can find the beautiful Norway spruce trees in big 35 liter pots. Trees spend their lives in these pots while they are rented and once the trees are back in the farm, they are stuck back in the field and stay there for another 47 weeks until the next year. Rental trees can be booked any time, but can’t be placed in the warm until mid December as a living tree it can’t be inside too long. Rentals start from 20 British Pounds for a generous 3 feet tree – with a deposit of 15 British Pounds – refundable if you return it in good shape. Make your Christmas more sustainable and rent your Christmas tree.
