Espoo shares its experience in low-carbon, climate-neutral and resource-efficient transition

The city is hosting a seminar on "Innovative local action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals"

Tomorrow, 8th July, the City Council of Espoo in Finland will host the Environment, Climate change and Energy (ENVE) commission seminar on "Innovative local action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals", announced the European Committee of the Regions.

The aim of the event is to share the experience of Espoo and other European cities in their transition towards a low-carbon, climate-neutral, resource-efficient and biodiverse city. The seminar will be an opportunity to discuss the main barriers and enablers which hinder and facilitate cities in their fight against climate change through the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The initial part of the seminar will provide an overview on the current policy framework on SDGs at European level and the transformative change our economies need to achieve by 2030 and 2050. In fact - to meet its international commitments in the field of climate change, energy and biodiversity. The seminar will continue with a focus on the actions that Espoo and other EU cities have taken to transform themselves into sustainable cities and communities while providing affordable and clean energy. The seminar will close with a study visit to the clean-energy company Fortum that has co-developed, along with Espoo, a series of sustainable solutions in electricity, heating and cooling.
