For two days local and regional representatives will be discussing decentralized governance, urban development and sustainable goals
The forum "Cities and Regions for Development Cooperation" is taking place for the sixth time in Brussels next week. Formerly known as “Assises of Decentralized Cooperation" it will be held on 4th and 5th February 2019. The event is jointly organised by the European Commission and the European Committee of the Regions, and this year it will place the accent on cooperation supporting urban growth and promotion of Sustainable Development Goals at local and regional level.
Twinning, pairing and matchmaking of Local and Regional Authorities from the European Union and Partner countries will be discussed as means to achieve the aforementioned goals. Opening discussions will first contextualize the cooperation among Local and Regional Authorities at global level and look at good examples of existing partnerships, before continuing with the call for proposals on “Local authorities: Partnerships for sustainable cities".
Attendants will be given the opportunity to discuss related subjects, interact and generate insights and recommendations addressing the European institutions and to exchange ideas. This inclusive approach will ensure the ownership of all stakeholders and allow them to actively steer the event, conveying policy recommendations to the European Institutions.
