It’s about the future of fashion – and the planet
This unique fashion exhibition will present fashionable dress alongside natural history specimens, innovative new fabrics and dyeing processes, inviting visitors to think about the materials of fashion and the sources of their clothes. The curated garments trace the relationship between fashion and the natural world since the 1600s to present day, from nature’s influence on patterns and materials to the fashion world’s impact on the environment, with a strong focus on eco-conscious designs.
A dress made from Vegea, a leather alternative made from grape waste, sits alongside Green Peace t-shirts and a Calvin Klein dress, made from recycled plastic bottles and worn by Emma Watson at the 2016 Met Gala, created as part of the Green Carpet Challenge – an initiative which paired sustainability and glamour. All this and much more could be seen until Sunday, 27 January 2019. The ticket costs 12 GBP at Victoria and Albert Museum.
