You can now register to attend a free tour of Rijeka, the European Capital of Culture 2020
In honour of the International Tourist Guide Day, the association of tourist guides in Kvarner will offer citizens a free tour of Rijeka. Although this day fell on 21 February, its celebration this year has been postponed to Sunday, 14 March, because of the pandemic.
In 2020, the Croatian city of Rijeka was awarded the title of European Capital of Culture (ECOC). As a result, the theme of this year’s free tour will be “Heritage of Rijeka as an ECOC”. Members of the association of tourist guides spoke to the municipality and explained that they wanted their tours to explore the way the ECOC title impacts the city.
“Behind us is the year in which Rijeka took the flattering title of the ECOC, so we are interested in what exactly that title brought to our city and what it leaves in its lasting legacy. Members of our associations have prepared interesting guides on this topic, not only in Rijeka but also in Opatija,” members of the associations reportedly stated.
In contrast with previous years, the number of participants is now limited to ensure the safety of those who wish to attend. For this reason, those who would like to join the tour on 14 March must show their interest by sending an e-mail to one of the following e-mail addresses.
90-minute tours will be held at 10:00 am and 11:00 am in Rijeka. The starting point of the excursion will be at the beginning of the Rijeka breakwater. If you wish to attend, show your interest by emailing kvarner.guides@gmail.com and contacting Marija Volf Puž (095 861 1913).
In Opatija, there will be only one tour, starting at 12:30 in Slatina. To attend, register by emailing guides.opatija@gmail.com and contacting Nasrin El Gharni (091 551 0199).
