If you want to teach citizens to separate waste, make it as easy as possible
For easy and clear sorting in the home, Krnov City (Czech Republic) bought 500 bag sets for collection of sorted waste.
"Each set includes three easy-to-wash bags that can be joined together with a Velcro fastener. Individual bags are colour-coded so that waste sorting is as simple as possible. The yellow ones are designed for plastics, blue for paper and green for glass," says Pavla Hájková from the Environmental Department for krnov.cz.
The advantage of this approach is that if the yellow bag is filled with, for example, PET bottles, it can be removed from the other bottles and placed in the plastic container separately. It is also easy to remove paper or glass bags from the set. If people are not sure how to properly sort waste, they should simply look at the individual bags. As with stickers on colour-containers, the individual types of plastics, paper and glass are displayed on the bags.
Residents of the Czech city will receive the 20 litter bags free of charge and they will be distributed since today, November 19th. Bags can be picked up by citizens at the Department of the Environment, office 333 on the second floor of the City Hall, Monday and Wednesday from 8.00 to 12.00 and from 13.00 to 17.00, Thursday from 13.00 to 15.00.
For the first time, the bags for waste sorting were distributed to citizens in 2015. At that time, the city purchased a total of 2600 sets.
