Görlitz - best filming location in Europe

The Eastern German town of Görlitz won the award for the best filming location on the continent

Görlitz was awarded by the European Film Commission Network the best movie location on the continent at a ceremony in the European Parliament, . The eastern German city competed against 10 other locations, shooting scenes of multi-billion dollar series as “Game of Thrones”.

Görlitz is the most eastern city in Germany, located 100km east of Dresden on the Polish border. There are 56,000 inhabitants and many historical monuments.  Known as 'Görliwood', the city's unique and well-preserved architecture has turned it into famous destination for national and international movies and TV productions since the 50's.   

Some of the most popular movies shot in Görlitz are “Grand Budapest Hotel”, “The Book Thief”, “Inglorious Basterds” , “Around the World in 80 Days”, “The Monuments Men' and 'The Reader”.
