En lo que supuso una demostración ejemplar de apoyo transfronterizo, amistad y solidaridad entre autoridades de distintos niveles y de diferentes países, el presidente gallego Alberto Núñez Feijóo expresó su apoyo directo con motivo del lanzamiento de la candidatura de la ciudad portuguesa de Braga a Capital Europea de la Cultura en 2027, anoche.
Núñez Feijóo elogió no solo la ciudad de Braga sino también Oporto, ambas ubicadas en el norte de Portugal y, por lo tanto, no lejos de Galicia. Las dos regiones juntas forman una Eurorregión más grande, un formato que promueve una cooperación más estrecha en diferentes campos y minimiza la importancia de las fronteras nacionales.
Las dos comarcas han tenido históricamente una larga trayectoria de fuertes vínculos culturales y esta tradición se continúa con el apoyo mostrado por el presidente de la Xunta de Galicia.
“Si Braga consigue ser Capital Europea de la Cultura, coincidiría con el Año Santo 2027, lo que supondría para la Eurorregión una feliz coincidencia y su consolidación desde el ámbito cultural”, ha dicho Núñez Feijóo. El Año Santo se refiere a aquellos años en los que la fiesta de Santiago (patrón de Galicia), el 25 de julio, cae en domingo, cuando se cree que todos los peregrinos que hayan completado la Ruta de Santiago recibirán la absolución de sus pecados.
Santiago de Compostela fue en sí misma la Capital Europea de la Cultura en 2000, lo que supuso un importante impulso cultural y económico allí, una gran experiencia que el líder gallego quisiera que también viviera Braga.
Núñez Feijóo también tuvo cálidas palabras para Oporto, la ciudad más grande de la Eurorregión, de la que fue nombrado ciudadano honorario, y que calificó como “la más cosmopolita” allí. Oporto también tuvo el honor de convertirse en Capital Europea de la Cultura en 2001, justo después de Santiago de Compostela.
