Gdansk is currently working on a draft strategy for the development of electromobility in the city until 2035. The local authority invites all interested citizens to take part in the public consultations until 16 June.
To get an overview of citizen’s attitudes and needs towards the development of electromobility within the next 15 years, Gdansk announced the start of public consultations. They will take place between 27 May and 16 June and have the objective to identify and diagnose the needs of the residents and gather their opinions on the matter.
“The inhabitants are the priority of Gdańsk's development strategy. We want Gdańsk residents to have a real impact on decisions taken in the city” said Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, Mayor of Gdańsk quoted by the municipal portal. “Our vision is for a city gathering people who shape the future together, which is why I encourage you to actively participate in consultations. We want to know your opinion.”
The topic of electromobility is increasingly prevalent in the media and in everyday conversations, explain from the city. Local governments respond by investing in the zero-emission fleet of public transport vehicles, but also in the infrastructure for the charging electric vehicles. As of recently, they have new obligations on supporting the development of electromobility, imposed by the Act on electromobility and alternative fuels of 11 January 2018.
The main goal of the strategic document for Gdansk will be to improve the air quality and to change the transport habits of its residents. This is certain to have a long-term impact on their health, life quality and the overall attractiveness of the city.
Among the local activities in this direction are the creation of zero-emission bus fleet, the promotion of sustainable mobility – by public transport, cycling, car sharing or low-emission cars, the development of electric bicycle system for Gdansk and finally – the use of low-powered or zero-emission vehicles in the fleet serving the City Hall.
“Electromobility is part of the strategic development areas of the City of Gdańsk. It is the next step to sustainable transport”, added Piotr Grzelak, deputy mayor for sustainable development. “Gdańsk is a model city when it comes to bicycle transport, which makes us very happy. Now our priority is to increase the potential of electromobility and to encourage residents to use its solutions” he concluded.
As part of the open dialogue, residents can attend two online meetings on two consecutive Wednesdays: May 27 and June 3. Consultations will also be carried out in the form of a survey and via the comments form, which will be made available at www.gdansk.pl, together with other relevant information on the proposed strategy.
